Grant Kelly
Grant graduated from Oakland Tech with honors from the Health Academy. Grant participated in a summer internship at the Oakland Veteran’s outpatient clinic where he developed a strong sense of gratitude for our Veterans and distinguished himself as a compassionate caregiver. Grant is perfectly bilingual in French and English, and is also a gymnast. This gave him the opportunity to travel to Montréal to train in a summer program with Cirque du Soleil. Grant plans to study Pre-med with Business as a minor at Loyola Marymount University.
Angela Borglum
Angela graduated from Alameda High School, where she was student body president. Her passion for international relations and foreign affairs led to her being a Youth Ambassador in Uruguay where she lived for two months in a small rural village in the Dominican Republic. Locally, Angela organized and led efforts to win a $25,000 scholarship from State Farm for her school to raise the awareness of safe driving. She also volunteers her time with the Bud Branch organization that provides help for terminally ill children at Oakland Children’s Hospital. Angela will be attending Harvard University to further her studies in International Relations.
Teresa Dayrit
Teresa is a Berkeley High School graduate, with a perfect unweighted 4.0 GPA. Aside from excelling in AP chemistry and physics, Teresa also has a passion for music. She is a longtime member of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, has performed at Davies Symphony Hall, toured at competitions in Europe, and performed with the San Francisco Opera and Symphony. Teresa tutored math students, coached young singers, and committed four years to Best Buddies International, an organization that supports tutoring of students with developmental disorders. She will be applying her technical skills studying Materials Engineering at Stanford.

Andres Maldonado
Andres graduated from Moreau Catholic High School with a 4.2 GPA and a score of 34 on his combined ACT’s. He has been Captain of his school and club volleyball teams and competed in the Junior National Championships in Texas. Andres’ interest in neuroscience is motivated by the challenges within his own family and the hope that his career may help other families struggling with debilitating brain disease. He will attend Columbia University to study neuroscience and behavior.
Melanie Jane Pascual
Melanie graduated from KIPP King Collegiate High School and has already made a career of encouraging young women to tackle computer science. She was chosen amongst nine girls nationwide to attend the “Made With Code” event in Washington DC hosted by Google, and was the only student selected to give a speech about her work in computer science. She also created CuPet, a website that matches abandoned animals in shelters with foster homes. Melanie chose Middlebury College to continue her studies in computer science and entrepreneurship.

Katie Johnston
Katie is a graduate from Livermore high school, where she exhausted their offerings for math and science, and continued to take Multi variable Calculus at the local community college. Katie has a passion for water polo, and was Co-Captain for her varsity team. Her participation and leadership helped move the team at Livermore from a lackluster sport to the North Coast sectional championships for the first time in the team’s history. Katie will attend the California Institute of Technology where she plans to study computer science.
Ethan Ha
Ethan graduated from Livermore High School with a GPA and SAT scores that defy improvement. He is first violin in the Livermore Amador Symphony and was accepted for a position in the California Orchestra Directors Fall Allstate Orchestra. Along with being a magnificent violinist, Ethan is an officer of the extraordinarily active Livermore High Interact Club and math club, and also runs on his high school track and cross country teams. Ethan will be going to UC Berkeley where he plans to study molecular biology and music.
John Oberholzer
John graduated number one in his class from Oakland Technical High School, and at 14 years old he also graduated from a community college with an Associate Degree in both mathematics and natural science. He plays in the Oakland East side All-Star Ensemble, competes in Latin ballroom dancing, is a varsity swimmer at Tech, is a senior patrol leader in the Boy Scouts, and a member of the Black Student Union, Feminist Club, Debate Club, and the Anti-human Trafficking Club. John will be taking his many talents to Stanford, where he will study Chemistry.
Donald Wu
Donald is Valedictorian of the Alameda High School class of 2015, as well as Captain of both the track team and the cross-country team. He is a passionate cyclist with a 140-mile trek to his credit and has been invited to ride with the Cal Berkeley Cycling Club. Donald is a committed scout, earning his Eagle Court in December of last year, and also has an impressive list of service projects he participated in with the Boy Scouts. Donald has chosen to attend the University of California at Berkeley to continue his studies in computer science.
Brittney Deadwiler
Brittney was the Captain of the varsity basketball team at James Logan High School for three years and graduated with a perfect unweighted 4.0 GPA. She has been the starting point guard since her freshman year, received all-league honors the last two years and was selected for the AAU traveling basketball team. In track and field she competes in the triple jump, long jump, high jump, 400 meter, 4 x 100 relay in the 4 x 400 relay. Brittney will be attending Harvard College and anticipates a major in neurobiology with plans to become a doctor.
